As a woman there is a different definition of strong that comes with our gender. It is not strength of physicality but more emotional and mental strength that is tested beyond measure. I, myself, have been through some pretty painful moments that emotionally I thought were physically going to destroy me; however, my mental strength proved me wrong. If I am being honest, it was my faith that held me together because in my flesh I was at the end. It is only by faith I am held together.
Faith comes in like a swift wind filled with gusts of hope, inspiration, encouragement, and determination all painting the canvas of our soul. I find that my strength not only comes from my God, but from the women he has placed in my life; women who inspire me and give me my own strength among the trials.
My sister was recently diagnosed with colon cancer at the age of 34. Not only was she a strong person before her illness, but since the diagnosis I have been in awe of her even more. I have watched her raise her two children while her husband serves our country and that is no easy feat. I lived with her for a few months a few times in my life and honey I give you mamas out there MAD RESPECT!
Not only have I watched her fight for her family and her health, I have recently witnessed her strength take on super human level. Her daughter got diagnosed with Leukemia 6 months after her own cancer diagnosis. I have watched her go through her chemo treatments, while staying nights at the hospital with a smile on her face, through all her pain, while still tending to her other child, husband and maintaining her household. She has single handedly inspired me in so many ways and truly represents women!
I have watched one of my best friend’s be faced with numerous diagnoses that seem to all hit her at once, while raising a child at a very young age. Not only was she taking responsibility of herself but unselfishly saw a need for another mother and stepped in to fill that void for another young lady. Like my sister, I never hear a complaint, an utter of a negative word, or even a sigh. I have never seen a tear fall from her eye or a sign of weakness in the presence of her daughter. Never a sick day, never a “put mom on hold” day, or even a “I need a day for me” day.
My mother has battled an autoimmune disease for a few years, but every day she pushes harder than the last. I watched her as we lost my brother and she never stopped trying for the rest of her kids. My grandmother has never had her happily ever after with her husband and has never quit trying for 65 plus years, nor changed her character because of his. Another dear friend of mine fights the holds of depression while still trying to bring sunshine to other people with little strength she has, still manages to find ways to encourage someone else to find theirs. I have watched and listened to stories of my friends fighting for their children, fighting for their marriages, fighting for their peace, fighting for their lives, fighting, fighting, fighting.
You see, we as women are strong because God made us to be. He knew that life would throw pain, betrayal, death, sickness, infidelity, and sorrow. He knew the world would need world changers, human huggers, difference lovers, prayerful encouragers, and strong shoulders to carry others. So often we find reason to battle one another and we lose sight that we are bred from the same cloth, the same mold, each with a unique gifting, strong character, and a fierce presence of power simply in our heartbeats. We as women are STRONG. We are EMPOWERED and empowered women empower other women!
Let us look at one another and admire each other. Let us learn from one another. Let us have compassion for another. Let’s ask each other for more advice and let’s listen to one another’s stories more often. Lets hug more, love more, and walk together more instead of tearing one another down.
Show your scars. Embrace your flaws. Face your fears. Dance more. Sing louder. Laugh harder. Allow yourself to feel. Allow yourself to grow. Be you. Be FIERCELY, UNAPOLOGETICALLY, and FEARLESSLY you!!!!
I love you! I pray for you! I got you!!!
