Three days spent in Denver. Three days I'll never forget with my sister. Three days I drank hot coffee and savored my meals. I called it my momcation and it was all things lovely. The stars just happened to align for a last minute trip to visit my sister in Denver. So--I packed a very small bag that I didn't remember being capable of doing since before kids and just hopped on a plane. I absolutely adore my kids, but OMGoodness, to only have to entertain myself was just what this momma needed.
There is so much to do in and around Denver, but I wanted to share a few of my fave foodie spots for your next trip over or a local foodie exploring all the hits. All the hiking, adventuring and even shopping can work up an appetite and these are sure to win a nomnom hashtag from your visit.
true food kitchen
As soon as you walk into True Food Kitchen Denver, you can see there is nothing to hide about their food. It's wide open kitchen let's you see all the fresh ingredients for yourself as the chef grabs them to prepare the nutrient rich dishes. Inspired by well renowned physician, Dr. Andrew Weil, each dish aims to provide anti-inflammatory qualities, while tasting deliciously farm fresh and true.
This normally picky petunia had all the heart eyes for everything from our tea refreshers to edamame dumplings to a holy amazing turkey burger full of flavor, oozing with Gouda cheese, topped with avocado plus jalapeno sauce. Oh-- and the sweet potatoes and kale side salad. See where those heart eyes come in? Since I can't always hop on a plane to the Denver location(this is tempting me to do it again though!), I can drive down to one of their other locations in Naples, or make a pit stop if ever in Atlanta, Houston or San Diego.
snooze eatery + union station
Lemon poppy seed pancakes. I could leave it at that caption and it would be enough to tell you why you have to eat at Snooze Eatery, but I'll keep going because it was that good. The lemon poppy pancakes were topped with maple glazed pistachios, a crisp citrus mascarpone(my fave part!) and candied lemon. Add in their OMG! French toast(their name and I agree) with mascarpone in the middle and vanilla creme on top next to their pineapple upside down pancakes and you'll see why they named the French toast what they did. There might have been some amazing, locally produced bacon in there and per my sister, their Hollandaise smothered dishes are a hit!
The other kicker? It's inside the most beautiful train station downtown called Union Station. It's filled with boutique stores, sweet treat spots and classically decorated lounge spots. Perfection and a must visit. It's right in the heart of the historic district with many beautiful buildings to ogle over as you stroll.
Located in the neighborhood of Congress Park, this old fashioned ice cream parlor makes you time travel a few decades. They don't stop at just incredible depthy flavored ice cream though--specialty cones, shakes, ice cream sandwiches and other novelties. Ahh! Take me back please! You can grab a sweet treat and enjoy it as you roam around the quaint neighborhood. If closer to Downtown, their sister (or brother) ice cream spot, Little Man, has some fun spunk in their flavors sure to hit your ice creaming loving spot too!
D Bar can be found in the Uptown area of Denver and it was d-licious. Oops, the d actually stands for drinks, dining and dessert. I was there for dessert though and my macaron loving self found my happy place. What caught me off guard initially was a Lego bust of celebrity chef, Keegan Gerhard, and I knew it was going to be good when I found out he was the owner. As one who has watched the Food Network since I was ten, I may have geeked out and asked if he was there. He wasn't though--wah! Items on the menu that caught my attention(besides the macarons) were their milk & cookies, creme brulee and churros.
So, if you're looking for the classic adventures found in Denver, don't forget these food spots in the mix too! After all, you have to replenish those cals right?!
Denver, I heart you thiiiiis much!
