When you welcome your first little one into the world, everyone says "sleep when they sleep." It's easy--you get plenty of rest and feel like you can conquer this thing called mommyhood. When pregnant with your second, you are always going since you have a toddler to run around after. Finally that little one graces you with their presence and in no way were you prepared for the sleepless days/nights that lay ahead of you. You finally get that little one to sleep, you plop on the couch--and your little guy says "Mommy play cars with me?" You somehow muster up the energy to get down on the floor and do exactly what he asked.
Moments where my son needs me are almost more peaceful then when I am alone with him. He creates a sense of calmness over me, and helps me focus on that second not the hour before or what will happen later--but the now. I love to create meaningful moments with my oldest when the little one is resting to help me regain my energy to tackle both boys.
how we make "piece"
Sometimes you have to throw out the fear of getting the floor messy, and have an indoor picnic. I love to grab one of our favorite treats--Edward's Hershey Chocolate Creme Pie, slice it up and enjoy after our PBJ sandwiches (we may cheat and eat some before.) I, I mean we, love the velvety layers stacked on top of their crust that tastes just like a cookie right out of the oven. "Piece"ful moments like this allow me to spend quality time with my son with very minimal planning on my part. He enjoys it, and it makes him feel big getting to eat in the living room on the floor with mom. Can you really go wrong with pie? Definitely not, it's certainly the best "piece" offering I know of!
Having two boys is absolutely wonderful--as I will always have someone to take me on date. I try to do something special with Bennett on the date he was born each month (i.e. the 14th of each month) whether it be getting ice cream, going on a walk, playing a game, etc. I have chosen this day so I know that each month no matter what is going on, we will always have that moment with each other to escape.
Lucky me, this month's special date just happens to be Pi Day, so you can find us with a slice of this Edwards Hershey's Chocolate Creme Pie. I highly suggest running to your closest grocery store to get your own pie to have a "piece"ful moment with your loved ones and friends!
