Now that 2017 has kicked off, I wanted to share a personal journey I've had within myself, which is embracing confidence.
One day I was reading an article about Oprah embracing her journey of loving the skin she lived in. She talked about how she conquers personal goals within herself and how she continuously surrounds herself with people she can learn from and help make her a better person. It honestly stuck out to me because, Oprah, being a woman that doesn't lack resources by any means still has struggles that money can't fix. From what I gathered in the article, she intentionally keeps healthy relationships around her and confidently tries to be the best version of herself daily.
So I made a mental checklist of things that I wanted to be more confident about within myself, and I asked God to bless me with healthy relationships that could help grow me into the woman He created me to be.
Along this journey I've learned that confidence starts inward and manifests outward to others, creating a beautiful atmosphere around you, no matter where you go. Towards the middle of last year I wanted to confidently slay whatever I put my mind to and trust that I had everything on the inside to make it happen for myself. Of course some days where easier than others, but during those trying times I was able to lean on Godly relationships, remaining confident that the best version of me was still to come. Before I knew it, my family had so many amazing opportunities come our way. It honestly left us smitten with God. I didn't realize when I prayed for confidence and positive relationships that it would usher my whole family to a place of increase. Praise God for thinking bigger!
One of the neatest opportunities for me, was being offered the chance to co-host a local talk show in Atlanta. It was so exciting and humbling at the same time, because out of all the billions of people in world, I was considered for this opportunity. I accepted the offer and started filming soon afterwards!
Being on set with a glam squad and a wardrobe consultant was mind blowing. It's so funny how people have different skill sets, gifts, and abilities to transform someone to be "camera ready." My hair looked flawless, my makeup was stunning, and the outfits I got to choose from were so figure flattering. The wardrobe was by far my favorite department, so much so that I wanted to get to know the consultant personally. Her name is Jazmine and she owns a boutique in Alabama called Pretty Plus. She specializes in plus size clothing so her sizes range across the board. What blessed my heart the most, was that she honestly loved making me feel confident in everything I tried on in my dressing room. She has a heart of gold and a eye for flair, so I knew immediately that she was someone that I needed to add to my list of Godly relationships.
After 12 hours of filming, I found out that the talk show purchased my outfits for me so I could take them home!
I still feel the residual excitement of the entire experience. It has filled my confidence to the highest! I really believe that when I decided to embrace confidence on the inside and trust God to pull out my inner strength, it allowed me to embrace opportunities that I never would have imagined. Loving the skin you're in will put your life on the fast track. Cheers to a New Year and I pray that every person reading this remains confident throughout this year and embraces unfathomable opportunities.
