I remember just 2 years ago when I was pregnant with my son, I ordered a couple things on Etsy--but still Instagram wasn't that big yet and it was mainly just ordering from the big companies if you wanted cute swaddles or anything unique for baby. This time around my world has changed. Give me all the personalized swaddles and bibdanas within reach.
I find something new every day that baby Carson just absolutely needs. The stuff I have gotten for him, you can't just find in your local big box baby store. You will find these items on Etsy, family owned websites, and Instagram. I'm loving the new must haves that social media has brought us.
Traveling is my job, but let's be honest, my job is hardly as glamorous as it may seem. Wearing a cute flight attendant outfit=being on your feet all day, traveling multiple days a week=living out of a suitcase, you get the idea. Being a Denver based flight attendant, the destinations I travel to are rarely exotic. Outside of work, traveling is also one of my passions, one that can be quite expensive, although it doesn't have to be. In fact, it can be done cheaply, especially on a budget. Here are a few ways I travel and not break the bank:
If you are flexible and open to options, make sure do some research on areas you would like to travel to. Currency is always fluctuating and if you are open to options, explore areas where the US Dollar is worth more. Get more for your money, literally!
If you have your heart set on a particular location. Research the best time to go. For example, one of our faves, Hawaii, is always going to be relatively expensive, but like every destination, it has its low and high seasons. Accommodation, excursions, restaurants all seem to adjust their pricing to the different seasons. For example traveling to the Caribbean during their "winter," happens to be their low season and can be easier on your wallet.
Single Ladies.. single mommas…be encouraged by God’s word...
"Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” 1 Peter 3:4
"Don't compromise what God said was meant for a blessing."
"Don’t establish a relationship based on what you can get from it."
"God won't bless a relationship that he isn't in."
"Learn to be okay with just being with you!"
Boy, do I know these words of wisdom oh so well! The truth is I spent the majority of my dating life doing the complete opposite. I was so impatient and just wanted to have what she had and what they had. I allowed my self to tirelessly try to prove to people who just couldn't see my worth, to see me. I chased after rejection. Convinced myself that he would change. Things would change. I even placed unrealistic expectations on me for the sake of a relationship. I didn't want to let it go. So I stuck through it all. Changed whatever I had to just to make that person comfortable.
A couple weeks ago, I took a leap of “randomness” and tried out a new recipe- acai smoothie bowls. Have you ever Instagram stalked someone’s recipes, DIY projects, or fashion tips? Well I did, and that’s how I stumbled across the amazing creation of acai smoothie bowls. Long story short, I’ve been following Nourish With The Seasons on IG and they inspired me to buy ingredients that I wouldn’t normally buy and I have been very pleased. They have a cookbook that I can’t wait to try as well! The girls that manage the page are from Australia and they have some of the most creative ways to make ordinary fruit look so delicious. Of course, me being a graphic designer, made me want to design my food, which turned into wanting to eat healthier! Go figure?? The cool thing with acai smoothie bowls is that they are good for your skin. I have noticed a significant youthful glow in my skin since I’ve been eating them. Pretty neat, huh?
Although I have another little one joining our family in the next 8 weeks, I wanted to share what's in my Toddler "Undie" Bag. Since writing my posts about potty training I have had a couple questions about packing an extra set of clothes, what do the wet clothes go in, etc.
I have this adorable bag that I literally bring with me everywhere. It's great for swim days cause it's cotton and dries quick when I throw a towel and wet swim suits in the bottom. Plus--"Mother of Wildlings" accurately depicts what my life is like, even if one Wildling is still in utero.
Have you ever been frustrated? I mean frustrated to the point of juicy eyes, slamming cabinets shut, maybe some walking around grunting frustration only to realize how little the thing that brought you there? Let me tell you…I haven’t had a McFlurry from McDonalds in 4 years. 4 years and the one day I really want one, I mean mouth watering, soul yearning, I can almost taste it yearning for it, they tell me their ice cream machine is broken. Not just one McDonalds y’all, but three!! Three McDonald’s crushed my McFlurry dream in .5 seconds of careless delivery. I came home and had me an attitude something terrible. How could all these McDonalds, in three different zip codes all have broken ice cream machines? Not to mention the cashier sounded exactly the same at each location! I couldn’t decide if the devil was a liar or Jesus was playing a joke on me. I caught myself saying, “Kimberly you should not be this upset over some McDonalds processed ice cream.” But JESUS!!!! I wanted it so bad.
Going on vacation is almost like Christmas time. The feeling of anticipation is almost too much to bear as you countdown the days until your flight takes off. I can't be the only one that L-O-V-E loves to spruce up their wardrobe and accessories repitoire for the location they're headed. As I was dredging away at the work week and never ending piles of laundry, dreaming about getting my sun-kissed glow, gathering my must haves for Maui was a breeze and almost made me feel like I was already on vacation.
Then, it happened. The alarm clock went off and it was departure day! Even going through airport security was relaxing as I had no agenda, just me and the hubby, sans kids. Yes, you read that right, and I had absolutely no idea what to do with myself! We met up with my sister and her now fiance(as they got engaged on our trip ahhhh!) in LA and left the mainland for the gorgeous island of Maui. I R&R'd so hard and below, are my absolute fave must have finds for this trip that helped me do so.
My beach experience will never be the same. Well, fall has officially come and this is usually the busiest season for most of us! There’s football, fall festivals to go to, party upon party to attend, Thanksgiving, traveling, shopping and then hints of Christmas starting to surround us! For most of us, it’s one of our favorite times of year, for others, it can be the worst. Believe it or not, there are many who do not like, and even despise, this time of year, simply because it brings on bouts of depression. This is the time when you travel to see friends or family, and have more relational interactions than you would throughout any other time of the year.
Unfortunately, there are those who do not feel they have that connection to desirable and meaningful friendships or relationships. There are many who feel alone, lonely and left out, unloved and discouraged. You may have someone close to you that deals with this, or may deal with it yourself. I know I have. I am not afraid to admit, that there have been times in my life where I dreaded this time of year and desperately wished the new year would just start already.
Ya know that feeling when someone you care about makes you feel so very loved? That awesome feeling when a friend showers you with encouragement or surprises you with a little something special that just makes your whole day. Or when your hubby takes you on a date that he planned ever-so-intricately to perfection. Or when you get into a really good conversation that lasts for hours and makes you feel refreshed and ready to change the world by the time you’re finished chatting…
We all love to feel loved.
Of course there are many different types of love, and different ways that we express our love toward those we care about.
These days I’m working hard to make my kiddos feel loved.
Yes, I’m a mommy, and all of us mommies love to love on our babies; And I love on each of my two in different ways.
But as my sweet girl is getting a little older (she’s four now, woah), the way I make sure she feels love has slightly shifted.
This month my first born, my son, turned 14. Time continues to fly by faster and faster each year. He is already reminding me how long he has until he can start driving and we are having those conversations about college and future careers. I have been reading the book “5 Conversations You Must Have With Your Son” by Vicki Courtney. This book helps us to know how to approach our sons and have those important conversations with them as they grow into young men. Vicki Courtney wrote, “As mothers we will be one of the strongest voices in our sons’ lives. We must understand the temper of the times and determine the best course to take when it comes to raising our sons to model biblical manhood.”
