about our guest blogger:
My name is Lindsey! I'm a dedicated college student, aspiring nurse, and passionate writer. I feel it is one of the best ways to truly express yourself. In my free time I enjoy doing yoga, spending time with love ones, and soaking up the sun! I look forward to shining my light on the lives of others, whether it be with my words and support or with my medical skills in the future!
It's hard to believe that in just a few short months I will be turning 21. When you are little you dream of growing up, but now that I'm here, sometimes I wish it would all slow down. As a working college student and a natural worrier, sometimes I let life's stresses get the best of me.
Although some days are harder than others, one thing I've been reminding myself lately is, "even in the midst of doubt, life is worth living." For those of you that don't know, yes that is a Justin Bieber lyric & yes I attended his concert, "Purpose World Tour" in Orlando, a short time ago.Let's just say it was everything my 11 year old self could have dreamed of. However, being older I don't just idolize him for his looks or his music, but for the message he conveys.
Due to the recent tragedy in Orlando, last night was a whirl wind of emotions. It's true, that with so much negativity going on around us it's hard to be happy in a world that can sometimes be so cold. The tribute to the victims and the families of the Orlando tragedy was truly touching and inspirational to see. The main message that shines through was that we have to rise above the hate, violence, controversy, discrimination, and all other struggles to fulfill our purpose in life.
In his song, 'Purpose,' he says, "we weren't necessarily put in the best position to make the best decisions." I'm sure everyone can relate to that in some aspect as the world we live in is a very flawed place. It's true that everyone has their own obstacles, but looking at the world as a whole, my problems start to seem so small. Although I can't change the whole world, I do try to be a person that shines some light in the lives of others, because we all can find ourselves in a dark place at times. I try to treat others the way myself, and everyone deserves to be treated. Of course, like anyone else I've been through my fair share of hard times (abuse, anxiety, family issues, stress, etc), but I've made it a point to not let those things define me. I've forced myself to get back up and be the person I am despite anyone's attempts to bring me down. I hope that everyone can find that strength, because trust me, it took some time.
I'll admit I'm a big ball of emotions at times and I've always been scared of change, but lately, I realized that not many things remain the same. That is why recently I've been trying to put as much effort as I normally do into others, into myself as well. That is why I write, because I hope that others can be touched or relate in some way to what I share. No one should ever feel like they are alone in this.
At this point in my life, I feel my purpose is to continue my education and to never stop reaching for my dreams, even when they seem unachievable. I'll admit as a college student, there are some days I don't even wanna wake up or feel like I'll never get where I'm going, but then there are other days that I truly see what will come of this hard work and dedication. With just one semester left until I can apply to the Nursing Program, I'm excited to continue making steps towards my future, while reminding myself to take things one day at a time. I hope that despite the things that typically try to hold us back in life, that everyone believes in their self enough to see their own purpose and never stop striving to get there.
