I was so full of so much excitement that I could hardly keep my mouth shut for the couple of days before her surprise. My daughter was turning 11 years old on the 11th~ her golden birthday! So we had decided to give her 11 cards throughout the day that had either a surprise gift or activity for her to enjoy on her special day. Oh, the anticipation! She was over the moon excited because unlike other years where she knew what would be going on, she loved the fact that she has no idea what she would be doing or the gifts that she may be receiving. I thought I would share with my She Is ladies what we did to give you some ideas on how to make the day special for someone in your life.
I first went to the store and purchased a package of small cards and envelopes. I wrote the numbers 1 through 11 on the front of them and attached some stickers that I already had in my office to add some extra pizzazz. I love creating moments to make memories within our family. Gifts can easily get thrown to the side after a little bit of time, but memories last forever. Our children grow up so fast, which is why I love love love to make the most of everything that I possibly can before they are out of the house.
The best part about making your child’s day extra special is that you do not have to spend a lot of money on each of the gifts or surprises. Your child will be excited to be celebrated and enjoy the day with their family. Our daughter had a few requests as to what she would like to have or do so it was not hard for me to come up with the rest of her special treats for the day. Her number one request was to have mini donuts for breakfast at one of our favorite places in the Tampa area. So, of course, we had no problem honoring this request. She also wanted to get her nails done and I made an appointment for the two of us to go the night before her birthday, leaving us time to complete her other activities on her birthday. Some of the other things we did included: getting roll up ice cream, buying her early Beauty and the Beast tickets, going to an elephant farm and grabbing Starbucks together. So you can see nothing too complicated, just lots of fun to be had.
A very wise man once said “Any day spent with you is my favorite.” Ok, so it happens to have been Winnie the Pooh who said this, but he is so right. Enjoy the moments creating your own memories with your family. Making someone’s day special is something you can do with anyone in your life at any age.
