In honor of Mother's Day coming soon, it only felt right to have a little style fun with my favorite woman in the world. Meet my sweet, beautiful mama. Born in Brooklyn, New York with Puertorican roots. She is a brave, strong & confident single mom of 3 who raised us to be the same. Always praying and believing for the best, showing us that with God all things are possible. Did you know that she can play bass and guitar? My mom was “famous” y’all! In her 20’s she became a member of her church band called The Mediators, who later on made their own vinyl record.
"The Mamies" as I call her, has always been stylish in her own way (you know, with some of my help). From her business suits, plaid patterns, shoulder pads, hip huggers and let's not forget the platform shoes, to now signing up with gwynnie bee. Yes my 62 year old mama has her own gwynnie bee subscription. This is giving her the opportunity to get the looks that she loves from the comfort of her own home, creating an ultimate wardrobe if she wants to keep any pieces or enjoy wearing a cute outfit and sending it back when finished with their unlimited exchanges & free laundry. Is there any better gift you can give your mom for Mother's Day than free laundry? I think not! She would get her first month free, then the next month can be your official gift!
Now--let’s talk about these amazing outfits:
I know you’ve heard a lot about She Is Blank Space and our app on the way, but I want to talk about how we got here, why this is so important to me, why it’s so needed.
One day I woke up.
No, not by the beeping of my alarm clock or my kids poking me in the eyeball, but I WOKE up.
My innermost being was so lost, confused, and just flat out blah.
It was as if God tossed a bucket of ice cold water in my face and said, “Ashley, my dear, whom I love so hugely…what are you doing?”
I absolutely could not answer that question. Sad, right? Yeah, I thought so too. This started a downward then upward spiral. It was a lot of questioning and addressing things I was holding onto before I could start moving forward. I dug in deep, cried a lot of tears from past hurts, anger, and whatever else I needed to face. This was hard for me, a person that seemingly had it all together, to admit defeat and that I was failing at “life.”
Spring is just around the corner--eeek! The flowers are blooming, a beautiful breeze is in the air, amazing prints and pastels come back to our lives. Spring is my favorite time of the year and my favorite season for fashion. There are so many different styles to choose from and so many fun ways to mesh different colors and patterns together.
For instance, a beautiful flowy off the shoulder shirt and a simple pair of jeans or a black and white skirt. Dress it up this spring or keep it nice and cool. Always remember, you got this girl and you are fearfully and wonderfully made no matter what size, shape, or color you are. Be confident, be bold, be BRAVE, be fearless! Here are a few of my spring picks from the amazing Gwynnie Bee clothing rental company and Eloquii fashion line! I hope you love them as much as I do!

Here's what was in my first box...

There is something so refreshing about spring--the snow melts away with flowers taking it's place, the temperatures warm up equaling more adventures and...spring cleaning! I know, I know, normally you hear the word "cleaning" and want to run the other direction, but when it comes to sprucing up your kids wardrobes, that is in a whole different category! It's time to pack away all the heavy layers of pieces with far too many buttons and zippers, trading them for light, airy tees and shorts like these from OshKosh B'Gosh!
You know that old saying, "don't judge a book by it's cover?" Well, despite how much we would like to be able to tell everyone we meet our story right then and there to see the whole picture, we are more complex than that, and people do judge us from their initial glance at us. We are people with layers and substance, often taking time to develop relationships before spilling the beans of our life story. Today though, I challenge you to share of yourself a little faster, letting the walls down, as you never know if the person on the other side needs to hear it.
One way I've found to make this easier is to rock a cute, inspirational tee. It tells a little bit of your story from the get go and opens the door to conversation that could start a valuable friendship, be the light in someone's day or inspire someone to choose positivity. We hope you enjoy a few sneak peeks from our app on the way soon as we share about these incredible tee companies we adore! Huge thanks to 139 Made, Thread Tanks, Ascent 516, BEcoming Threads and Wholeheartedly for partnering with us on this journey of inspiration<3
What a gift it is to come across people that have taken something they've been through and chosen to make good out of it. When I first meet Tiffany of Wholeheartedly, it was like we had been friends for years and chatted away for the longest time. We found commonality in balancing mom life and work life, with a little entrepreneurship mixed in. Obviously, with our name, I am drawn to things of meaning, not just labels--things that get to the core of who you are as a person.
When you ask Tiffany about the name of her jewelry and clothing company, she explains, "I wholeheartedly wouldn't change any of the pieces that that make me who I am today and I can now wear every single one of my pieces with pride." She learned that as a single mother facing difficult times, that more often than not, people offered pity instead of encouragement. She basically said "no thank you" to accepting that, and found a way to empower herself to push through.
When you look up the definition of a nurse in the dictionary, it is "one who is trained to care for the sick." Yes, that is obviously the biggest part of the job, but it is so much more. You are a listener, a shoulder for tears, an encourager, a human calculator, an emotional wall of strength...the list could go on and on. What an honor to be entrusted with not only the vital part of survival for a person, but also their hearts during times of need.
Over the last eight years, I have seen things that would make you chuckle, but also things that would make you cry. In my first week of ER orientation alone, I would've had enough material to write a book! Cue the thought of "what have I gotten myself into?" But as time went on and I got out of survival mode from the overwhelming amount of knowledge I had to attain as a new nurse, I learned a few things...
No matter how long I’m married to my handsome hubby, I never (EVER) get tired of dating him! We are one of those weird couples that actually enjoys being around one another. Hehe!
In all seriousness, I absolutely love spending time with my hubby. With life being, well, life… setting aside time for just the two of us is absolutely vital. Sure, we see each other every day, and we talk all the time, but there’s just something so re-charging about that special time together. It’s a couple (or few, if we’re super lucky) hours of time where we refuse to worry about work, kids, the future, or whatever else might be weighing on us at the time.
Sometimes, we are so eager for a date night that we just throw ourselves together, say farewell to the kiddos, and run out the door as fast as we can.
But lots of times, I like to dress things up a bit. Nowadays I realize I can have both cuteness and comfort, so I go for it!
Now that 2017 has kicked off, I wanted to share a personal journey I've had within myself, which is embracing confidence.
One day I was reading an article about Oprah embracing her journey of loving the skin she lived in. She talked about how she conquers personal goals within herself and how she continuously surrounds herself with people she can learn from and help make her a better person. It honestly stuck out to me because, Oprah, being a woman that doesn't lack resources by any means still has struggles that money can't fix. From what I gathered in the article, she intentionally keeps healthy relationships around her and confidently tries to be the best version of herself daily.
So I made a mental checklist of things that I wanted to be more confident about within myself, and I asked God to bless me with healthy relationships that could help grow me into the woman He created me to be.
As we head into the new year ahead, we wanted to share some of your most favorite posts from 2016. In no particular order, here is our top 16! Thank you for supporting us and having fun alongside us. May you have a blessed year ahead!
