Many of you know that I have an organization that I am passionately head over heels for. This organization began on a leap of faith and seems to continue that way. Everything that has happened has been because of God’s faithfulness. I began this journey with just my heart and a desire to seek justice and to speak for the voices that were being silenced. I am not going to lie and say that this is an easy calling— but, it definitely is a rewarding one.
One of the rewarding moments was when I was able to see one of the survivors come to know Jesus and outwardly express her love by deciding to go public in baptism. What a sweet reminder that God can do the impossible!
I am excited to share with all my She is sisters that Recovery Agents of Hope was chosen as a competitor in the Miami 2017 Brackets for Good Tournament! This is a one-of-a-kind event and we will be competing with over 60 other nonprofits in the Miami area for an opportunity of winning title of Champion and $10,000 grand prize: in addition to whatever money raised. Brackets For Good is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that helps build awareness, raise funds, and expand marketing capabilities for local nonprofits through competitive, online fundraising tournaments.
This is super exciting for me! What many of you don’t know is that I have been praying for this. I have been waiting for this! Trusting and being still that God would supply the need for Recovery Agents of Hope as we do not have grants or steady donations. All this to be able to open up a 24/7 crisis center/home for victims rescued from human trafficking. In addition to serving and provide victim assistance.
When it comes to asking for donations, can I be real?— most of us head for the hills. It’s hard to give hard earned money and I totally understand that part.
In my personal opinion, this can be intimidating to ask others to believe in a why and to give monetarily. I have never been more sure that God is capable of moving hearts in believing in my cause— as I have been this year. The cause to help victims of human trafficking to become survivors/over-comers.
Although slavery is commonly thought to be a thing of the past, human traffickers generate hundreds of billions of dollars in profits by trapping millions of people in horrific situations around the world, including here in the U.S. Traffickers use violence, threats, deception, debt bondage, and other manipulative tactics to force people to engage in commercial sex or to provide labor or services against their will. While more research is needed on the scope of human trafficking, below are a few key statistics:
• The International Labour Organization estimates that there are 20.9 million victims of human trafficking globally.
◦ 68% of them are trapped in forced labor.
◦ 26% of them are children.
◦ 55% are women and girls.
• The International Labor Organization estimates that forced labor and human trafficking is a $150 billion industry worldwide.
• The U.S. Department of Labor has identified 139 goods from 75 countries made by forced and child labor.
• In 2015, an estimated 1 out of 5 endangered runaways reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children were likely child sex trafficking victims.
◦ Of those, 74% were in the care of social services or foster care when they ran.
• There is no official estimate of the total number of human trafficking victims in the U.S. Polaris estimates that the total number of victims nationally reaches into the hundreds of thousands when estimates of both adults and minors and sex trafficking and labor trafficking are aggregate (Polaris, 2017 www.polarisproject.org)
This is why I believe that my cause truly matters and being part of the fight against it has been a blessing to my family and I.
The tournament began on March 3, 2017 and runs for 7 days to get the most points(1 point for every dollar donated), Recovery Agents of Hope advances to the next round if we raise more than our opposition. Everything that is raised is going to towards the victim services that we support as well as beginning phases for the crisis center/safe house.
Here’s how you can help:
You can spread the word about Brackets for Good and Team Recovery Agents of Hope. This means to you can share on all your social media handles and share with others that you know would love to donate to a great cause. Lead the competition by giving and encouraging others to give.
Stay involved in the play by play. Just like a basketball game you want to pay close attention the tournament— every Friday. Consider watching to see if we are losing how you can share and make a donation. If we are winning comfortably how you may want to hold your gift for the next round.
All the Excitement of the college basketball tournament but this tournament could mean an additional $10,000 for Recovery Agents of Hope.
Round 2 – Brackets for Good tipped off 3/3 and goes through 7:59pm 3/9, so we've got one day left!
Rules of the Game:
$1=1 point scored for each organization.
God has and will always be the source of my organization and I have faith that his will shall be done!
Thank you all in advance.
