1 month…4 years…16 years…34 years…. It does not matter how long you have been dating or married, there is always always always room to grow. Being intentional in your relationship is the key for a healthy relationship. We so easily become wrapped up in our day to day routines that sometimes our relationships are pushed to the back and become stagnant. I believe strongly in nurturing and pruning relationships so they continue to bloom and thrive just as they did when you first met your spouse/boyfriend.
My husband and I have been married for fifteen years and we have two kids. We want our children to see what a healthy relationship looks like so they have that model when it is time for them to build their own relationships. Has it always been easy?? Absolutely not! Have we pushed through and worked through hardships? You betcha!
There are so many books and devotionals available for marriages. We recently stumbled across two books that go together by Jefferson and Alyssa Bethke called “31 Creative Ways to Love and Encourage Him” and “31 Creative Ways to love and Encourage Her.”
The Bethke’s wrote these books so that you could read through each day with an activity for you to do for or with your spouse/boyfriend. For example, day seventeen says to create a candy gram for your spouse/boyfriend and surprise them with it. What a creative and fun way to break up a normal-routine day. One of my favorite days I was to find a Bible verse that I wanted to memorize, pray, and declare over my husband. The daily readings not only help to add joy into your everyday life, but they also help to develop communication.
I challenge you to take time out from your normal, everyday routines to invest in your relationship. Be creative in your relationship and always work on it everyday. There are so many things that take our attention each day, don’t let those things distract you from your relationship. Here are the links where you can find the book for wives by Alyssa Bethke and for husbands by Jeff Bethke, both $11.88. I highly recommend them!
