I've always been a dreamer. For as long as I can remember, I've had thoughts and ideas of conquering the world swirling around in my head.
As I got older, those dreams slowly morphed into a concrete goal. I knew exactly what I wanted to do and where I wanted to go... But how I would get there, I wasn't so sure.
It's an unconventional dream. One that often warrants a double take or an "are you crazy?" when I reveal what I hope my future holds.
I dream of working as a war correspondent in the Middle East. I dream of Kevlar vests and helmets, embedding with troops and touring ravaged refugee camps while rattling off the perfect Arabic I've somehow taught myself.
But most importantly, I dream of telling stories of the sacrifice, heartbreak and hurt of the Middle East. Hurt we can't begin to fathom. I dream of making people care about what our brothers and sisters are facing half a world away.
By now, you may be asking yourself why you're reading this. Your dream may not be as "outlandish" as mine. But all dreams have one thing in common, they're all a stretch.
For nearly ten years, I've sat on my goal, trying my best to be patient and wait on God's timing.
But time often has a way of breaking down dreams.
In the back of my mind, it was drifting.
While hope was still there, the bold confidence I had to get there, wasn't. My dream seemed so far away, so unobtainable.
But one day about a month ago, a devotion out of Sarah Young's "Jesus Calling" slapped me in the face.
It says: "If the goal fits into My plans for you, I will help you reach it. If it is contrary to My will for you, I will gradually change the desire of your heart."
Think about that. Why am I worrying about the long path it will take me to accomplish my goal? If it's His will, he'll guide me every step of the way. If it isn't, the Lord will plant a new dream inside me. It's a simple thought, but a scary one. While we may not have a clue, He knows exactly what He's doing.
My dream may be the Middle East... But what's yours?
Think about it.
Then write it down, store it in your heart and go after it with everything you have.
Why? Because that dream is God-Given. If it's his will, he'll give you the determination to overcome the doubt.
Happy dreaming, beauties.
